Bird Watching near Seven Bridges Road

I was stuck on where to go for this assignment. I was originally going to go watch the sail boat races down in canal last Wednesday. Instead Professor Hatcher recommended going to Hawks Ridge off Seven Bridges road. I am currently a Junior and I had never been to Hawks Ridge ever so I decided to check it out.

I started off my adventure by traveling across seven narrow bridges

About half way up I came across Lake View Sports Area. It looked like it had seen better days. This would be an interesting story to find more about, as there was no one around who I ask questions to find out more.

Along Seven Bridges Road there are a lot of trails for snowmobiles and skiers. There were a few people hiking the trails the day I went, as it was a nice September day. Signs are an intriguing thing for me cause all signs have meaning and purpose. One question that came to my mind was “I wonder if any of these winter sport enthusiasts are starting to get ready for winter?” Another one of the signs had “Cyclists of Gitchee Gumee Shores” logo on the post with the saying “In Chapter of International Mountain Biking Bicycling Association.” I questioned what the significance of that group could be, and whether or not there is story within the group? Another question I had is, “why is there caution tape blocking off a certain part of the trail?”

After getting to the top of the road there is a 3-way stop and I didnt know where Hawks Ridge was so I guess and took a right onto the dirt road. (I should have actually taken a left turn.) By taking a detour I saw this amazing house with its own little pond. Normally houses like this are not out here in the woods like this so who ever lives here what brought them out here?

Finally I got to the top of Hawks Ridge, where I was stopped by a sign that said “STOP” it was about COVID precautions and how to keep you and others safe. They even used Eagle wing span to help understand how big six feet is.

After a while of observing I asked how busy it gets up here, and one of the employees said that the weekends are definitely more busy.” looked around their trailer for a bit and saw their fun displays and clothing items they were selling. When I got there there around 3:30pm they were clearing up for the day, and I overheard one of the employees say that they get there around 8am each morning. They also have a website with their live numbers along with their bird numbers on a whiteboard at Hawks Ridge. Their website also has a list of their events they participate in, like for example this coming weekend is the “Hawk Weekend Festival.”

Experience challenge

This assignment represented that there is so much more out there that lot of people are unaware of. I had no idea this is what Hawks Ridge really was, bird watchers represents a certain part of community. Within a community there is always more communities, that have a story to be told.
